Chimneys and Flues for MACROburn Incinerators

MACROburn Incinerators operate best with top mounted, natural draught chimneys. We recommend the use of 3CR12 corrosion resisting steel. Although mild steel is quite adequate, it will require more maintenance. Such chimneys do not require refractory lining or insulation. Mechanically induced draught systems can be used and are generally necessary If the incinerator is to be fitted with scrubbers or dry filters. Accurate draught control is essential. MACROtech manufacture sensors and control dampers specifically designed for these applications

Auxilary Fuel and Burners

The efficient incineration of most wastes requires the addition of heat for drying and ignition of the waste and for smoke elimination. MACROburn Incinerators can be fitted with burners for light fuel oil (diesel), towns gas, liquefied petroleum gas, natural gas or, in some instances for furnace oil and other fuels. They can also be fired by coal or wood where permitted by local air pollution authorities.

MACROburn Cremators are manufactured utilising the high standard of technology that has been developed for MACROburn Incinerators. Many years of experience in building tough, rugged, economical, reliable and smokeless incinerators have enabled MACROtech to design cremators that provide outstanding performance and have an exceptional life-span.

The MACROburn Cremator has a primary chamber and a secondary combustion zone consisting of a mixing chamber and a final combustion chamber. The chimney is mounted off centre, over the final combustion chamber. The primary combustion chamber has two hearths, upper and lower.

Coffin cremator The coffin is placed on the Upper Hearth. After the highly combustible components of the coffin and cadaver have burnt away, the remains are raked down onto the lower hearth, where the remainder of the combustion takes place. A second coffin can be placed on the Upper Hearth while the remains of the first cremation are burning out on the lower hearth.

MACROCeramic Filtration

The principle of the MACROCeramic filter is very similar to that of the conventional reverse pulse bag filter.

The fabric bags in the conventional filter are subject to temperature limitations (approx. 200°C), to sparks causing hole in the bags as a result of localised burning and to mechanical wear and tare.

In the MACROCeramic filter the bags are replaced with rigid ceramic filter elements that are capable of withstanding temperatures higher than 1000°C. MACROtech places a general temperature limitation of 600°C on the filters as a whole. This is due to design considerations relating to other materials used and to expansion and contraction allowances. None the less, the 1000°C resistance of the elements is of great benefit in ensuring that sparks do not burn holes through the filter medium.

MACROsave Recouperators

When economically viable, MACROsave Recouperators are built to suit customer’s requirements for recovering energy in the form of hot water or air or steam from the gasses leaving the incinerator (Note that most MACROburn incinerators also incorporate recuperative systems to preheat combustion air.)

MACROburn FLAME INTENSIFIER

The MACROburn Flame Intensifier is a recuperative system for providing greatly improved combustion efficiency and enormous fuel savings. Fuel consumption is reduced to as little as 25% of the fuel used by other incinerators. In addition, the hotter, cleaner flame produces less unburnt carbon and less smoke. The smaller flame requires less combustion volume and the incinerator capacity is increased by 10 to 20 %.

MACROblaze Waste Gas Burner in South Africa

gas flaresMethane Gas from Sewage Works can now be burnt with the all new Waste Gas Burner supplied by SAUBATECH. The MACROblaze 300W Waste Gas Burner consists of a burner head mounted on a vertical column, which protrudes upwards from a pedestal.

Pilot Gas is fed through a small flame arrestor, a solenoid valve and 15 n/b stainless steel pipe to a toroidal chamber near the top of the column. A ring of replaceable nozzles emit the gas in vertical jets where it mixes with air under the pilot ring before passing upwards and burning in a circle of pilot flames. “The size of the nozzle jets can be changed to suit the size of pilot flame required,” says Peter Thieme of SAFURNCO.

The main gas supply reaches the burner head via the column. A high chrome cast iron turbulator across the top of the column disperses most of the gas sideways and imparts a rotational movement.

Gas enters the column base via a tee piece and passes downwards around the outside of a concentric inner pipe. The inner pipe ends short of the base, allowing the gas to turn inwards and enter the bottom of the inner pipe which forms the column. Flow of the gas is controlled by water in the base of the column. The existence of flame in the burner head is monitored by thermocouple.

A water tank, divided into two compartments, is built into the pedestal. One of the compartments, the water supply tank, is fitted with a ball-cock on the water inlet pipe to keep the water in the supply tank at a constant level.

Water flow from the supply tank to the base of the column is controlled by normally open solenoid valve. When the valve is not energised, water from the tank flows into the column, covers the bottom end of the inner pipe and prevents gas from escaping upwards to the burner head.

MACROblaze Flame Traps in South Africa

The MACROblaze flame trap is designed specifically to absorb the direct blast of an explosion and has build into the inlet side, an automatic shut-off valve which will close when a fusible plus in the outlet of the flame trap reaches an unsafe temperature.  These two features are standard equipment and form part of every MACROblaze flame trap.

The standard MACROblaze flame traps have cast iron bodies and stainless steel heat-sinks and auto shut valves.  No brass is used in the flame trap thus making it completely suitable for use with sulphur containing gasses such as sewage sludge gas.

For special applications non-standard valves made from other materials such as Aluminium or special stainless steels are available.

All of the flame traps described so far are of the in-line type suitable for gas supply lines to combustion equipment etc.  Other flame traps include vent type traps for installation in the vent of large oil and combustible material storage tanks.

This product made from amorphous man-made fibres has proven in numerous European tests that the biopersistence of the soluble fibres is very good No significant increase of fibre induced pathology has been observed.

One form of soluble fibre is made from a blend of calcium, silica and magnesium having the ability to support continuous temperatures up to 1100C. They possess excellent insulating properties, are free of binder or lubricant and show good resistance to thermal shock.
